Protest Tue Feb 10, 6:30pm at Warm Springs Elem.

FREMONT FIRST, NO STADIUM

The Oakland’s A’s and the city want to build a 32,000+ people baseball stadium in Warm Springs. The Oakland A’s will meet with 25 people at Warm Springs Elementary at 7pm on Tuesday February 10, to sell their stadium proposal. Even though it is invitation only, use this opportunity to have your voice heard.

JOIN US FOR A PEACEFUL PUBLIC PROTEST
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10TH @ 6:30PM
WARM SPRINGS ELEMENTARY SIDEWALK
(Bring poster/sign, flashlight, cameras/camcorders)

FREMONT RESIDENTS DESERVE THE TRUTH!
  • Do you like the weekday late afternoon traffic on 880/680, Auto Mall Pkwy, Mission Blvd, Warm Springs Blvd and Dixon Landing Blvd? How about the extra 10,000+ cars during game days? Can citizens around the East Bay afford to have longer commute times?
  • If police can’t respond to burglar alarms any more, how will they handle increased crime and activities with the new stadium?
  • What impact will this stadium have on our house values, home insurance and car insurance?
  • Will the Oakland A’s stadium in Fremont bring positive or negative economic impact? Should Fremont take the risk?
  • How much will our taxes rise to support additional city services and road widening/maintenance a stadium requires?
  • Who will benefit from the new stadium? (the Oakland A’s, commercial developers) Who will suffer? (the residents, taxpayers)

One Day Left For Letters

We only have ONE day left for the public comment on A's stadium plan. Please encourage your friends from all parts of Fremont to speak out their voice. Do you want Fremont become the next Oakland? Do you think the A's stadium will make your house value go up or down? For the supporters, do you live in Fremont? Have you look at their plan? Many people don't even know the A's is moving to Fremont!

Please write letters to speak out. We have a few sample letters on the right. We need different kinds of letters:

(1) No Stadium In Warm Springs, very strong stance. Even recommend to drop it from Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
(2) Need more letters to provide evidence and hard facts why their plan won't work and will bring Fremont's future into disaster.
(3) Encourage the City Council to speak for the voice of local communities. Residents don't want it. Retailers and business don't want it. What's the benefit of a stadium? to whose benefit? and at what cost?

Please focus on their plan, not just "not in my backyard" attitude. You can endorse the letters you like and email to city, and/or hand deliver to them, as mail is probably too late now.

- For A Better Fremont (actually, my house value $$$;-)

Note: If you have times, please read Mercury News article 12/11/08 and Mercury News article 12/14/08 for more info. Currently, there are 3 possible sites: San Jose, Pacific Commons and Warm Springs. Don't let Warm Springs become their "path of least resistance". You might also enjoy An Inconvenient truth. Please share with us with your letters/comments: noasws@gmail.com or Yahoo Group. We also encourage you to start a new blog/wiki/forum.

A's Coming To Warm Springs!

A's is meeting with local business try to convince them now (see the meeting note below). Please spread the news to local stores when you visit. I heard there is even a local elementary school principle supports the Warm Springs site (need his clarification?)!

Hurry up, Mission San Jose, Irvington, Weibel, Warm Springs residents, your house value is already dropping like a rock now, in just a week. No one is willing to put a buying offer in our neighborhood because Warm Springs is being considered as one possible site for A's new stadium, based on a local real estate agent.

After joining the online petition, please write letters to speak out. We only have 1 days left until the public comment deadline! We need different letters:

(1) No Stadium In Warm Springs, very strong stance. Even recommend to drop it from Environmental Impact Report (EIR).

House Value Dropping Fast!

Hurry up, Mission San Jose, Irvington, Weibel, Warm Springs residents,
your house value is already dropping like a rock now, in just a week. No one is willing to put a buying offer in our neighborhood because Warm Springs is being considered as one possible site for A's new stadium, based on a local real estate agent.

We need to make stronger voice: Don't even dare to mention Warm Springs as an alternate site! Remove Warm Springs from their plan. Don't even start to consider it. Any councilmember still allow this intriguing idea alive certainly did not put the local residents as best interest.

We only have 2 days left until the public comment deadline! There are a few sample letters on the right. Please focus on their plan, not just "not in my backyard" attitude. Please share with us: noasws@gmail.com or Yahoo Group. Wow, we start to see more comments and new posts today. We also encourage you to start a new blog/wiki/forum.

A Bad Stadium Plan

an article from Mercury News Sunday 12/14/08

We need to make stronger voice: Don't even dare to mention Warm Springs as an alternate site! Remove Warm Springs from their plan. Don't even start to consider it. Any councilmember even thinking about such crazy idea won't get any single vote from this area.

We still don't have enough letters/write-ups. We need to send more letters to the city. We only have 2 days left until the public comment deadline! Please turn many quotes and evidences into letters (example). Send letters to the city, and share with us: noasws@gmail.com or Yahoo Group. We also encourage you to start a new blog/wiki/forum.

I'm also afraid they might use Warm Springs to divert the public attention from seeing the current plan 's flaws. The current plan will bring Fremont into disaster.

If you oppose the Warm Springs stadium, most concerns will still hold true even if the location is in Pacific Commons. Most importantly, the whole city will be impacted, not just limited to south Fremont. We need to make sure the A's plan addresses those issues properly.

Stay On The Course

Thanks for all the comments in the past few days. Also apologize for jumping too far to suggest the "San Jose A's" idea last night (probably got too carried away by seeing what is happening in San Jose; that's probably at least 5 more steps away). After several feedbacks from the group, this blog will tune down the wording and stay on the two stated objectives (on the header).

We have a strong case and enough materials/letters to support objective (1). There is an organized effort from our Yahoo Group this weekend to distribute flyers in the local communities. Please sign up the group and join the effort. The city is feeling the strong opposition from Warm Springs and taking "the path of less resistance". Some negotiation is probably happening now in Pacific Common (see Wasserman hasn’t given up on ballpark village).

Since the Yahoo Group is dedicated to the above task now. If you have comments about this blog or objective (2) Encourage public awareness of the cost and benefit of having an A's stadium in Fremont, please send to noasws@gmail.com or leave on the blog post. If Pacific Common oppose the proposal, we should side along with them. (Is there a similar group "No Stadium In Pacific Common"?) If they work out a deal, we need to make sure it is well planned and address all the issues. An ill-planned stadium in Pacific Common is as harmful as in Warm Springs. It still has the same damage with traffic, crime and financial consequence to the City of Fremont.

Most people only heard the rosy press releases and wait for the Pacific Common stadium to happen. I WAS one of them, until the past Tuesday's work session (Letter From an A's Fan, Let Your Voice Be Heard). If you have time to look at their current plan and walk through the issues, you should see there are many flaws in their current plan. We still don't have enough letters/documents to examine those issues. Will need to turn many quotes/evidences into letters/documents. Please help. We need at least 3 more writers to address on different aspects (traffic, crime, financial). You can also try to create a new blog to write more documents. I only have 3 days of blogging experience.

Let Your Voice Be Heard

Please help to spread the information to all the Fremont residents. There are still many people unaware of the pros and cons of having a stadium in Fremont. Is the A's current plan feasible? We would also like to make sure the voice from the local Fremont residents will be heard. We have only a week before the public comment period ends on 12/18/2008. We need more people to send your letter to the City Council. It doesn't have to be very formal. We need to let the city know there are all kind of issues haven't been addressed properly. Feel free to reuse the material from this blog.

Or you can simply leave your comments in this blog. Please be civil in your comments and protests. You can also help by sending your comments to noasws@gmail.com. We will organize the concerns and come up with a stronger case for public hearing. We also need help from many writers to address different topics, especially the flaws in the current A's plan. You can contribute and make a difference.

If you find any articles or blogs we can cross link, please let us know.

Thanks,
-noasws

[call for help] Does anyone know how to get the video of the work session on 12/09/08, and convert it to youtube? The city's web site doesn't have enough bandwidth. Can we get it from the city hall or library? Over 80% of opinions expressed by the local residents and businesses are against the proposal. But the major media only reveals the rosy press release from the City, BART and the A's. The truth must be told.
