Latest Update

[February 2009] Fremont residents have two strong protests on 2/5 and 2/10. The A's submit new NOP for Warm Springs on 2/10. While the residents planning for a protest on 2/24 council meeting, the A's cancel their presentation to Chamber of Commerce and public hearing. Then the A's go on to cancel the Warm Springs NOP and "stop" the Pacific Commons EIR. The stadium proponents are mobilizing their supporters to save the project. On 2/24, the A's officially withdraw their plan for Fremont.

[January 2009] Residents shows up in the city council meetings and raise concerns about the Oakland A's stadium proposal. The Mayor keep saying it's premature and they cannot make a decision now, while mayor and council memebrs publicly saying to the press it's a done deal. The A's are lobbying with local Chamber of Commerce through their "A's to Fremont" organization. They actively hold invitation-only meetings in small groups right now and purposely delay any public meetings.

[December 2008] The Oakland A's announced they were seriously considering changing the location of their proposed stadium from the west side of Interstate 880 to within walking distance of a planned BART station in Warm Springs, and next to the residential area. The change of heart came after the team couldn't reach a deal with Pacific Commons Shopping Center owners over plans to handle game-day parking and traffic issues. The new stadium proposal was met with heavy resistance from residents of the Warm Springs neighborhood immediately. Meanwhile, a letter from Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig giving the team permission to consider "other communities" if the a stadium deal in Fremont didn't materialize rekindled speculation that the A's could end up in San Jose.

  1. If A's is allowed to build a stadium at Warm-Spring site because A's can not reach a deal with Pacific Common shopping center owners over plans to handle game-day parking and traffic issues, it would be a "Discriminatory Act" by the Fremont City if the City allows A's to build its stadium at the Warm Spring site because this site would have even closer proximity to many residential communities than the demand by the Pacific Shopping center owners to keep the site further away from the Pacific Common Shopping center.

  2. I agreed. But we need to developed in the area. if Bart is built, no one is going to Warm Springs Bart Station because this place is like a ghost town.

  3. Good businesses who are there to stay with Fremont are what we want. If we have businesses built in there, their employees could get to work on BART, it's a benefit to all. BART-station≠Ballpark. Look at Oakland, being sucked up and dumped like an old rag. Oakland's had enough. If A's could bring that much revenue to their host city, why don't they pay it back to the city of Oakland?

  4. As a Warm Springs resident, I would love to have the A's stadium built near the Warm Springs Bart station. that area is just empty, and the only company nearby are storage and warehouse boxes. I would much rather have a stadium to spur economic development for Fremont.

  5. These are good comments. But is a stadium around BART station the best use of the land? Please look around the area around Oakland Coliseum. Do you want Warm Springs to like that? Baseball stadiums do best in an active, urban setting, surrounded by supporting/complementing businesses. One stadium and BART do not make it as "downtown".

  6. Warm Springs has been waited a long period of time to have Bart coming this way. We want it because so that residents and eomployees of the area can take advantage of the public transportation; and others can come visit our community. We don't mean to have BART coming into our community along with a huge Ball Park Stadium.
Warm spring is a small community, we don't have enough resources to support a Baseball Stadium in our community. The empty land can be used to develope other kinds of business generated development that will require only minimum resources from the community and the city, such as, theaters, department stores, etc.....
Warm Spring is a wonderful peaceful community, please do not invite in an UNWANTED stadium in our neighborhood to ruin our lives. If the business owners in Pacific Commons doesn't want the A's, why do you think thousands of residents in Warm Spring would want their lives be affected by the A's????????? Please DO NOT DISCRIMINATE the homeowners who have paid hundreds thousands of dollars to have their America Dreams in this lovely Warm Spring Area.

  7. City of Fremont is going to propose a new ball park location at the intersection of Grimmer and Fremont blvd. It is right next to the NUMMI plant. Check out the City of Fremont website and you can get the details. The meeting will be on 1/12/10. Where was the Warm Spring site before?

  8. The Fremont x Grimmer intersection was probably first mentioned in 2001/2 (#6 or #7 in A's list at that time). Then in 2006, the A's and Cisco proposed the Pacific Commons site, south of Costco. In late 2008, the city proposed to A's an alternate site between Warm Springs BART station and I-680. Facing strong opposition, the A's pull off from Fremont last February.

Now, the MLB commitee want to have final evaluation of all the options in Alameda county (before allowing the A's move to San Jose). With NUMMI closing, the Fremont x Grimmer site is proposed by the city again.
